Who is The Simple Contrarian?

Man was not created and did not evolve to live in concrete boxes, with a synthetic diet, or socializing only through virtual media. Homosapiens are designed to work the earth, feed from the earth, to live socially and to strive to be spiritual beings (not by means of religous dogma, but by being virtuous).

The Contrarian does not conform to the lifestyle that Western society has forced upon him. His goals are not greedy or materialistic, and his nutrition is not refined to a cardboard box. He lives to his true potential seeing life in a way that modern man either cannot comprehend, or chooses to ignore for the sake of his comforts. He lives an active life, not endulging on modern conveniences, consuming the fruits of his labor and enjoying his company. He puts loved ones first, has a deep spiritual commitment, yet in moderation is not prohibited from anything.

Simply put, The Simple Contrarian is the person that the universe intended for you to be.

The Keys to an Optimal Life

Live minimally and do not be a conformist

Never let society or "the Joneses" tell you who you should be. For thousands of years religion, philosophy and life in general has tried to teach us that fashion, fads, luxuries, materialism in general do not translate into happiness. Understanding this and living it is the key to enlightenment. Practice simplism; love nature, make things by hand, grow your own food, and spend time outside.

Be active

Longevity and vitality belong to those who routinely undergo low intensity exercise. Strenuous exercise programs are not natural, and are difficult to maintain. Instead emerse your daily activities with things you enjoy like yard work, washing your car, bike riding or sports. Create simple habits like parking far from your destination, and walking whenever possible.

Never over indulge

Healthy societies eat less and own less. This means living the simple life, few buffets and fewer luxuries. Like the Okinawan, practice philosophies like "Hara Hachi Bu", literally meaning "to eat until you are 80% full". Apply this not only to food, but to all aspects of life.

Eat food as the earth intended

The Western diet is destroying humanity. Processed and refined foods, regardless of their labels are poison to your body. Eat food the way nature created it, and even grow it yourself. Consume organic foods, raw foods, nuts, berries, sprouted whole grains, organic red wines, and do not be afraid of saturated fats, eggs or raw (unpasteurized) milk products. Learn about the diets of nutritional contrarians like Weston A. Price and Joseph Mercola.

Know the truth about pharmaceuticals

Synthetic drugs are manufactured for one purpose; to line the pockets of the greedy companies that sell them. Treating symptoms yet keeping you sick longterm is their industry. Take medicines only as a last resort and learn how nutrition can treat your ailments.

Be spiritual

Studies show that religously devoted individuals (that is those involved in non-violent, peaceful religions) live an average of 8 years longer than those who are not. Coincidentally, it is well documented that places with high rates of atheism also have high rates of depression and suicide. Make peace with your spirituality, and maintain a healthy devotion to it.

Stay close to friends and family

Recent psychological studies show a direct link between social people and happiness. Studies of centenarians show a commonality of having close relationships with family friends. Keep your elderly relatives close or in your home. Spend time with your family taking walks, playing games and performing chores together. Surround yourself with a community friends that encourage healthy habits.

Enjoy anything in moderation

The human body is designed to purge itself of small amounts of toxicity. If you live the right way the majority of the time, then you should be healthy enough to occasionally engage in any activity that you are comfortable with. But be careful to never be debaucherous, and always avoid anything that could lead to personal addiction.
